It's halftime of the USA-England game and it's 1-1! I can hardly believe it. Everyone I've talked to expected England to CREAM the US, so this is a pleasant surprise. Of course, the game isn't over yet, and I'm excited to see what happens. A friend said that this game is like padre vs. hijo (father vs. son), but I have to say that the son is holding his own.
I'm watching the game online because I still don't have a TV. The transmission is pretty good, but the commentators are Mexican so it's pretty funny to listen to their accent, and they way they pronounce the English last names. On a related note, it's equally as funny to listen to US baseball commentators pronounce the Spanish last names.
Aaaaand we're back. Go USA! (Well, for now, as long as they aren't playing against Chile.)

USA got lucky, they won mostly because of the england's goalie, i'd never let him hold my baby.
Erin
U.S. did get lucky, but they also played well throughout most of the game. And that's the way soccer goes. Sometimes the ball bounces your way and sometimes it doesn't.
I'm also really surprised that you and whoever you talked to were expecting the U.S. to get creamed. Most people who even follow soccer a little teeny tiny bit realize that while the U.S. isn't a huge threat to anybody, they're certainly capable of playing on a top international level, and writing them as an easy game off would be a mistake.
To "get lucky" as many are saying now all over the internet about the U.S. goal, they have to get a striker to a forward position, and then shoot to the goal.
That wasn´t luck, it was bad goalkeeping.
Also, the later shoot made by Jozy Altidore, was the better proof that the US team was closer to voctory than UK´s.
It was a nice game to watch, and was funny to see all the british say they will devastate the US team before the match, and the American response after the game, even from people that admited didn´t know a thing about football. (They call it soccer xD)
Hi Erin. Thanks for your comment. Yes, the goalie did commit an error, nobody can deny that, but I don't think it has anything to do with luck. When you're playing at the World Cup level, you just can't commit those kinds of mistakes.
Kyle, yes you're right about the US playing well. Maybe creamed isn't the right word, but 90% of the people I talked to (who all know a TON about soccer, way more than I do) said that England would probably squarely win. I think that the US has made leaps and bounds in terms of being able to compete at the level of the rest of the world, but despite this, I still think that the stereotype exists that the US is "bad" at soccer. Maybe this informed some of the commentary I heard, which was from both Chileans and people from the US.
Marmo, Yes I agree with you. Haha, but I still call it soccer. When I say football I think of American football, it just gets so confusing. Anyway, I totally agree. I read somewhere yesterday that someone wrote "The US beat England 1-1". Haha.
